Pedro Alvares Pedro Alavares Cabral was one of the greatest explorers known throughout history. Pedro Alvares was born in Brazil in the year 1467. Pedro always wanted to travel to Brazil. Christopher Columbus, Vesco Da Gama and Bartholomeu Bias helped Pedro on his trip. Pedro's trip was hard because he had to sail through treacherous water. Pedro had thirteen ships two ships were lost before return home on 1501. Pedro sailed the Island of the True Cross and also landed in Lisbon. Pedro was related to the royal family. April, 23 Pedro landed on the coast Brazil. Pedro was supposed to be leading the Indies. Pedro was well educated he has been taught many languages, physics, mathematics and astronomy. In the 1500’s he got sent out Manvel to fleet destined for Indies. Pedro has been driven off his course by storms. It also was questioned its been argued even Spaniard Vicente Yanez Pinzon saw Brazilian. Pedro still went to India to trade for pepper and other spices. Pedro also took classes to become a better explorer, sailor and a person. Pedro patron was King Manuel (TheFirst) of Portugal he also sent him on an expedition to India. April, 22, 1500 Pedro sighted land (Brazil), claiming it for Portugal and also naming it “The Island True Cross. King Manuel renamed the land Holy Cross. It also later renames again to Brazil after a King of Dyewood found there, called Pau- Brazil. Pedro stayed in Brazil for 10 days then continued his path through India. Pedro was strong because he had a solo fight with Muslim traders in India. Pedro returned to Portugal on June, 23, 1501, with a ship ruined. 50 of Pedro men were killed after an attack from Muslim traders in Calicut, India who did not want competition on their spice routes. Pedro successfully traded for spices in Cochin (now called Kozhikode) and also India. After this journey Pedro returned. He is now buried in a monastery in Santarem Portugal.
